But of course as the nice nice girl I am I understand the enormity of publishing these days and would have been a girl editor at the bottom of the slush myself. For now I'm sticking to the traditional agent route, in part because I need help and in part because marketing and selling myself takes so much time away from what brings me joy and a curiously continuous uplift of heart—writing itself.Lyn G. In fact, I think they're a good thing and writers should have the opportunity to find readers outside of the gate keepers. The slush pile opens doors for readers, and I'm always in favor of that.

Thanks for chiming in on this, Kathleen. I know you've been one of the most successful ones with eBooks.Susan Oleksiwhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14922248909626899186noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4914136465019308063.post-7141196619652665482011-04-12T07:26:13.812-07:002011-04-12T07:26:13.812-07:00I understand your points but there are lots and lo...I understand your points but there are lots and lots of authors selling hundreds of e-books a month to a loyal band of followers. I have been tracking the discussions on the Kindle Boards forums and I am gob-smacked at the sales figures a lot of these people are posting. They sell their e-books for very low prices - $2.99 and under - but they build loyal followings through social media.

It is amazing to me how all of this is working but, if e-books are indeed a slush pile, they are a slush pile from which an awful lot of people are getting a very nice return.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15964712984479525970noreply@blogger.com
